CSR Policy

Our CSR Policy forms an integral part of our company culture and ethos.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

As consultants and trainers, it is important for us to help not only our clients but the community in which we operate. That’s why we ensure everything we do is ethically sound and responsible.

THE ENVIRONMENT

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues facing the world today. At Kirkwood Training and Skills, we believe we have a responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint. Therefore, we have adapted all of our courses and programmes to be delivered remotely with an option for a blended approach, which has significantly reduced our carbon footprint by over 80%, in order to keep it as close to zero as possible. We continue to work remotely for at least 3 days a week as well as operating a car share scheme and using trains as much as possible to travel across the UK.

Our waste and emissions have reduced by 100% in the last 4 years since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. We are a paperless office and recycle all other materials and donate any unwanted IT equipment and office furniture to good causes. 60% of our laptops purchased in the last 2 years have been bought refurbished from our ethical partnership with BornGood, a business driving change to work in the most sustainable way as possible. Their mission is about creating new life from old tech and contributing to the circular economy.

REDUCING OUR DIRECT GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

Kirkwood Training and Skills is a paperless business. Since the start of the pandemic, we have operated on a digital basis and rarely print anything. We intend to continue this post Covid-19 recovery.

I shall be in contact with the update for the Kirkwood Consulting website. Thanks once again Benson for update the content for me and I look forward to hearing from you.

MODERN SLAVERY AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Kirkwood Training and Skills has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, trafficking or forced labour. We are committed to operating ethically in all areas of our business, including our supply chain and third-party relationships.

As an organisation, we regularly monitor, implement and review the systems and controls that we have in place to ensure modern slavery is not occurring anywhere in our business or our supply chain.

  • Today, the number of people enslaved worldwide is estimated between 21 and 36 million. 26% of that number are children under the age of 18.
  • A common misconception is that slave labour and human trafficking is primarily linked to the sex industry. However, 78% of people who are enslaved are victims of forced labour in industries unrelated to sex. As responsible organisations, we must ensure that this violation of fundamental human rights is not taking place anywhere in our supply chain.

SUPPLY CHAIN

Where appropriate, we prefer to work with suppliers holding the ISO 14001 environmental accreditation. This standard improves the manufacturing processes carried out by our suppliers.

OUR HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY

Our Health & Safety Policy is key to ensuring the continued wellbeing of our employees and clients. Our handbook details best practice for a safe working environment, and is given to all employees upon joining the company. Regular risk assessments are carried out to review and improve working conditions, and all clients are informed of relevant health and safety procedures at the beginning of each course.

OUR PEOPLE

Kirkwood Training and Skills embraces flexible working for all our employees. We believe that accommodating family commitments is key to the foundations and principles of the business, which why we provide a childcare scheme for our employees as well.

GIVING IN KIND

Kirkwood Training and Skills believes in giving back to the community in which we operate. As part of our ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ ethos, all excess training and office equipment is donated to local charities and Horton Kirby School.

We also believe in supporting and enabling our employees to give back as individuals. This is why we provide three ‘volunteer days’ for everyone in the company, which can be spent with our chosen charitable organisation or on a personal charitable project.
